I am a night person. I can get so much more work done in the evenings. (school or home) Many times when I wake up early it is hard for me to get out of bed. After I get going I am fine. (If we could start school at 9:30, that would be perfect for me. O.K. I'm joking.) I know the children are all on different circadian time clocks. Some focus and function better in the morning and some in the evening, just like the teachers. We just have to do our best to reach every child the best way we can.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"13251733","dateCreated":"1248042867","smartDate":"Jul 19, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"jlm10616","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/jlm10616","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/emmotteagles.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/13251733"},"dateDigested":1532426456,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Question 7 (Mann)","description":"Of course I have had a "space cadet". \n
\nYes, I am aware of my own circadian time. I am a total morning person. I am able to think clearly and get more done early in the morning versus staying after school. Around 3pm I start to \u201cdrag\u201d I feel that my thoughts are not clear and my work is less productive. \n
\n
\nTemporal orientation is a cognitive structure for processing information by comparing events in relationship to when they occur. If students have this, they are able to make connections by comparing data with other knowledge and experiences they have had in their own life. When students have this skill they are able to control their impulses and behavior much better. They are able to stop, reflect, and process the cause and effect relationship and outcomes. Students with this skill are also able to manage their time more effectively.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"13195717","dateCreated":"1247574094","smartDate":"Jul 14, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"kristensliker","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/kristensliker","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/emmotteagles.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/13195717"},"dateDigested":1532426456,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Question 3- Required","description":"Think of your students as a whole and choose an adjective to describe your relationship with them. \nWhole class adjective: \u201cpositive\u201d. I think I can see the best in every child, I want to find their strengths and praise that strength and build from it as much as possible.
\nMost challenging students adjective: \u201cconsistent\u201d. I think it is so important to be consistent with all children, especially those challenging students. Consistency needs to be the same across the board from routines, rules, etc.

How might you use your lessons to help students develop both cognitive structures?
\n
\nTo me logical thinking is learned and does not come natural. A logical thinker uses reasoning to come to a conclusion. A student is not able to do this until they are taught how to.
\nMetaphorical thinking is a cognitive structure that makes sense of information by comparing one thing to another using figurative language.
\nLogical thinking is done with our eyes. It is important for students to learn to observe and compare new information not only with their mind, but their eyes. I am going to use the question, \u201cWhat did you understand about this?\u201d a lot more in my class discussions. \n
\nSpatial orientation is a cognitive structure that helps students identify and compare where objects and places are in relation to each other.
\nTemporal orientation is a cognitive structure as well, but processes information by comparing events in relationship to when they occur. Students who have temporal orientation are able to make connections by comparing data with other knowledge and experiences. Those students who have this concept are able to control their impulses and reflect on their decisions. Temporal orientation also involves planning, organizing, communicating, etc. where if a student does not have basic spatial orientation they would be unable to plan or organize information.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]}],"more":true},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
